Samsung Flight 2, contacts list intializing... not sure how to turn on/off the phone. lulz?

Yeah, I just got it, and am pretty clueless. First and foremost... my contact's list... it keeps saying "Initializing. Try again in a few seconds." It's been over an hour, and there's a bar that just doesn't move. Secondly, I read the quick start guide, and it mentions nothing of how to turn the phone off.
